Ahead is built to be private by default. Ahead has no accounts and no backend. The app never sends your data anywhere, and we never receive, store, sell, or share it. Everything you enter stays on your device.
The one thing worth understanding is Send a copy, because it is the only feature that puts your information into something that leaves your phone. It is described in full under Sharing below.
The application stores the following information locally, on your device only:
The app never asks for your date of birth or email address. If you import an Ahead data file whose profile section includes them, they are stored on your device along with the rest of that file.
The app itself makes no network requests. It has no accounts, no sync and no backend, and it never uploads anything you enter. The single exception to data leaving your phone is a share link you create yourself, described next.
When you choose Send a copy on a list or a task, Ahead creates a link and hands it to whatever app you pick (Messages, WhatsApp, Mail, AirDrop, and so on). We are not involved in that: the message goes from your phone to your recipient through the app you chose.
The shared item's contents travel inside the link itself. There is no upload and no copy on any server of ours, which is why a shared link keeps working with no account and no internet service behind it. It also means two things you should know:
A share includes only the item you chose: its title, notes, schedule and reminder timing, any checklist, and for an appointment, the name of its service provider. Ahead leaves out your calendar links, your completion history, and your service providers' contact details.
If a share is too large to fit in a link, Ahead tells you and offers to send it as a file instead. A file travels like any other attachment and never reaches our website.
If you would rather share nothing over a link, use Export or import data in Profile → Privacy & Data to save a file instead, and send that file however you like.
Ahead does not perform analytics collection, does not include advertising, does not require an account, and does not access device hardware such as your microphone or camera. The app does not upload, sync, or back up your data to any server of ours. We build no profile of you, and we have no way to connect a share link to the person who created it.
Notification permission is used only to deliver your reminders, which are scheduled on your phone. No reminder is sent from a server.
Calendar access is optional and is only requested when you choose to add an appointment to your device calendar. When you later edit that appointment in Ahead, Ahead updates the calendar event it created. If it can no longer find that event by its saved ID, it looks through your calendars for an event with the same title near that date, so it keeps updating the right one. Ahead does not save, copy, or send any of your other calendar events.
You can edit or delete anything in Ahead at any time. To remove everything at once, go to Profile → Privacy & Data → Delete all Ahead data. This removes your tasks, lists, service providers, completion history, and profile from Ahead, and cancels its scheduled reminders.
Appointments you added to your device calendar stay in your calendar app until you remove them there. Backup files you exported are yours to keep or delete wherever you saved them. Uninstalling the application removes all data Ahead stores on your device.
Your information persists only on your device until you delete it or remove the app. We hold no copies of it, because the app never sends it to us. The only exception is the web server access logs described under Sharing, which our hosting provider keeps for a short period as a routine part of serving a website, and which we do not use.
Ahead does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children. The app requires no account and transmits nothing on its own. The only data that leaves the device is a share link that someone deliberately creates and sends.
